Luxedeum vs LiteLLM
LiteLLM is a genuinely good open-source LLM proxy: free, self-hosted, with very broad provider coverage. Luxedeum is the managed and appliance version of what you would self-assemble with it — no proxy to babysit, billing and per-key attribution built in, hard spend caps with 80% alerts, and when you need on-prem, the same control plane ships as a supported self-hosted appliance instead of a DIY deployment.
Business is the department-scale appliance SKU; all SKUs are on the appliance page. Hosted plans start at $19.99/mo with a free tier — the quickstart gets you to a first token in minutes.
Side by side
| Capability | Luxedeum | LiteLLM |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Managed gateway plus a supported self-hosted appliance, sold as a product with support | Open-source proxy you deploy and operate yourself — their site |
| Price of entry | Free tier (no card), hosted plans from $19.99/mo, appliance SKUs on the appliance page | Free and open source — the software costs nothing; infrastructure and operations time are yours. A commercial enterprise offering exists — see their site |
| Who runs the proxy | We do — hosted, no proxy to babysit. On-prem, the appliance arrives as a supported product with white-glove fulfillment, not a service you assemble | You do: deploy, upgrade, scale, patch, and monitor it yourself |
| Billing & attribution | Built in — per-key, per-model, per-day cost metering and dashboards; hard spend caps with a built-in 80% spend alert | Budget and rate-limit features exist in the proxy — you configure, back, and operate them |
| Provider coverage | Ten provider adapters behind one OpenAI-compatible endpoint | Very broad provider coverage — a real strength of the project; see their docs |
| OpenAI-compatible API | Yes | Yes |
| On-prem / air-gap | Yes — appliance in your VPC or fully air-gapped Sovereign tier; FedRAMP-aligned deployment shapes via AWS GovCloud and Azure Government (we do not claim FedRAMP certification) | Yes — self-hosted by nature; total flexibility if you are willing to own the operations |
| Support | Included with plans; appliance ships with white-glove fulfillment and a demo path | Community support; commercial support via their enterprise offering — see their site |
Where LiteLLM is the better fit
If you want a free, open-source proxy you fully control — and you have the engineering time to deploy, configure, and operate it — LiteLLM is excellent, and its provider coverage is broader than our adapter list. Teams that enjoy owning that layer should own it.
Where Luxedeum is the better fit
No proxy to babysit
The gateway is our production service, not another deployment on your on-call rota. Upgrades, scaling, and provider failover are our problem.
Billing is the product
Per-key cost attribution, dashboards, hard spend caps, and an 80% alert are built in and metered live — not a config surface you wire up and back with your own database.
On-prem without DIY
When the requirement is "inside our perimeter," the appliance is a supported product — including an air-gapped Sovereign tier scoped per signed SOW — not a self-assembled stack.
One vendor accountable
Support is included with plans. When something breaks at 2am, you page us, not a community channel.
Already running LiteLLM? The endpoint is OpenAI-compatible, so pointing your clients at Luxedeum is a base-URL and key change. Start with the quickstart or book a demo to size an appliance.
